Finncomm Airlines and ATRFinncomm Airlines aims to take environmental matters into consideration in all of our operations. We operate on airplanes that produce exceptionally low emissions and are appropriate for our route lengths and capacity demand. Appropriate fleet Our longer routes are operated by jets and shorter one on modern turboprop planes. A 200 Nm (370 km) range from Helsinki is ideal for our ATR-turboprop planes. Longer routes are operated by Embraer 145 jets. ATR - The worlds greenest airplane Most of our fleet consists of ATR aircraft that are said to be the worlds greenest airplanes. In terms of fuel economy and low emissions they're in a class of their own. On a longer domestic route with full capacity, the fuel consumption of an ATR is less than 3 liter per 100 kilometres per passenger and the carbon dioxide emissions are about 130 grams per passenger kilometre. For comparison, a car with an average consumption of 6 liters per 100 km produces 141 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometre. The ATR engines do not produce unburned hydrocarbon (HC) emissions that are a major contributor to smog in heavy traffic areas.
ATR-brochure: "The Optimum Choice for a Friendly Environment" (.pdf, ~3 mb) Airplane hangars Finncomm Airlines airplanes stay overnight only at destinations where they can spend the night in a hangar. The company has built numerous hangars in our destinations around Finland for this purpose. Thanks to these hangars, an estimated 300 000 liters of de-icing solvents is not needed annually. Operation procedures Operations are developed continuously to minimize flight times, fuel consumption and emissions. Domestic airspace and airports are rarely congested which means fuel efficient procedures may be used and there's no need to circle around waiting for permission to land. Reporting Finncomm Airlines has participated in updating air traffic emissions and energy consumption figures for Technical Research Centre of Finland's LIPASTO system. |
